Lawyering on the Margins Network: Lawyering On The Margins Network (LOTM) will host a visit to Neighbourhood Justice Centre, Australia’s first and only community justice centre. As well as containing court, the Neighbourhood Justice Centre combines a range of services to address factors that may lead to a person entering the justice system, such as homelessness, mental health or drug or alcohol issues. The visit will be carried out on Tuesday 18 April at 5 PM. Following that, LOTM will be hosting a drinks reception where you will have a chance to network and get to know LOTM more!
Due to limited space, interested participants should register with Marcela Jofré at marcela.jofre@hri.global by 17 April 2023, or visit us on site at the HRI booth and register yourself!
Medically Supervised Injecting Room (MSIR): The MSIR provides a safety-first, medical approach focused on harm reduction. It delivers onsite healthcare and provides immediate medical care to an overdose. In 2018, the MSIR initially opened as part of a two-year trial. In March 2023, following the recommendations of a second independent review, the Victorian Government announced that the service would become permanent in North Richmond. Two site visits will be carried out on Tuesday 18 April and Wednesday 19 April at 7 AM. Please visit us on site at the HR23 Information Point (booth 11) to register.

Innerspace is a primary care service in Melbourne with a needle exchange and drop-in services for the drug user community. Two site visits will be carried out on Monday 17 April and Wednesday 19 April at 7 AM. Please visit us on site at the HR23 Information Point (booth 11) to register.

*Scholarship applications are now closed*
HRI understands that the cost of attending HR23 is prohibitive for some people. We work hard to raise funds for scholarships to make HR23 more accessible. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Harm Reduction International is pleased to offer assistance to a small number of delegates to attend HR23.
In order to support as many applicants as possible with the extremely limited scholarship funds available, most scholarships granted will cover only partial costs of attending the conference. We therefore encourage everyone seeking funding to look into other sources as well. Scholarships will only be granted to people whose abstracts are accepted. You may submit a scholarship application as part of your abstract submission.
Please apply for a scholarship ONLY if you are unable to attend without support. Applying for a scholarship may reduce the chances of your abstract being selected, as funds to cover scholarships are so limited. By submitting a scholarship application, you are signalling that you will not be able to attend to present your abstract without a scholarship; we will therefore reject your abstract if scholarship funds have been exhausted.
Scholarships are usually granted to people from low- and middle-income countries and are predominantly awarded to people who use drugs. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as those people living in under-served, rural communities will also be prioritised for HR23.
Abstract submission closed at 23.59 BST on 4 October 2022.
If you would like to explore the possibility of hosting a side meeting, please contact the team by emailing conference[at]hri[dot]global.
